SIIM 2025 | Visage's Top Five

SIIM 2025 | Visage's Top Five

SIIM 2025 ("SIIM25") was another record-setting year for Visage! We experienced tremendous customer interest (especially on day one) despite a drop-off in attendance after day two (due to Memorial Day weekend). What was record-setting this year was the number of presentations and posters presented that included our customers, staff and technology. Everywhere you went at SIIM25, you experienced the impact of Visage. We also made significant progress this year, elevating our messages around cloud, relief, efficiency, and innovation. Lastly, one of our own was recognized by SIIM for their career contributions!

We’re so glad many of you were able to join us at SIIM25! We hope our summary from the meeting matches your experience with Visage, and if you were unable to travel to Portland, we hope you find our top five useful. It includes lots of photos and videos to make you feel like you were right there on the show floor. Now, on with Visage’s Top Five!

1 – CloudPACS Ascension | Moving From "Why?" and "How?" to Now

Visage is approaching five (5) consecutive years of customers exclusively implementing new installations of the Visage 7 Enterprise Imaging Platform in the cloud. Numerous customers came to the Visage booth with smiling, happy faces to tell us how well things were going with their Visage platform. Visage 7 | CloudPACS has had a tremendous impact, where today more than 70% of Visage customers in North America are in the cloud. We've spent the last several years educating customers about the cloud, developing videos on a variety of topics:

This year we developed a brand new video, Ascend with CloudPACS (May 2025), that focuses on the impact of Visage 7 | CloudPACS. What we've learned is that customers elevate their Enterprise Imaging initiatives to deliver ultrafast performance and much needed relief. They can:

  • Eliminate downtime and scale without limitation.
  • With Visage they're able to go-live faster in only 6-9 months.
  • Radiologists are able to read efficiently, in real-time without feeling it.
  • Institutions can orchestrate workflow with smart distribution, enabling image access at the speed of light.
  • Visage makes happy Radiologists and empowers IT with SaaS.
  • Visage leads and enables profound efficiency based on a modern platform that is future-proof, with support for the entire Apple ecosystem, and is optimized for AI.
  • Customers are able to master chaos, tame uncertainty, and eliminate PTSD from experiences with legacy PACS.

Further reinforcing our experience and leadership in Cloud PACS, Visage was proud to participate in this year's SIIM25 Cloud PACS AskIndustry Panel, Cloud PACS Voices: Lessons Learned From Your Peers. Steve Deaton, Visage's Director of Cloud Solutions and Edward "Dr. Z" Zaragoza, MD, Vice Chair Radiology Information Technology, UCLA Radiology, participated in this year's panel, which included industry representatives with providers. UCLA went live with Visage 7 | CloudPACS in October 2022.

After meeting with dozens of customers at SIIM25, Steve Deaton summarized the state of cloud PACS:

"In past years, there was a still a lot of convincing people that the cloud was viable. That it's not going to cause performance hiccups or new risks that you are not prepared for. There had been a lot of feedback from customers that they were anxious about what they didn't know. And this year, 2025, we've seen a lot more people establish that commitment that they are going to be cloud long term. The whole dynamic of the conversation has shifted. Less from insecure validation of what's possible, to saying how do we get there? How can we engage and collaborate with you to make it the best success. And that's invigorating for me, because now we're not convincing skeptics, as much as we are engaging with enthusiasts."

To get a sense of what was discussed in the panel, here's a few insightful quotes from Dr. Z:

  • "The level of agility and performance of the solution for display was amazing. And, the migration for us was also transformational because our legacy PACS had not innovated for quite a long time. And so we went from something that was very rudimentary in terms of displaying pre-rendered, axial, coronal, sagittal images to a tool that had on-the-fly MPR reconstruction capability, and the ability to precisely navigate within all of those planes simultaneously."
  • "So we went from very low-level technology to state-of-the-art overnight, and as a radiologist and champion of that project, it was for me, personally a big win to get to the point where I could give that to my staff. And we had a beautiful go-live for many reasons."
  • "I'm just gonna say our go-live day with Visage could have been very tumultuous. You know, anytime you change anything, like that's the hardest thing you can do to a physician. But when your vendor has studied your practice and asked questions how you want it to be that go-live day instead of being something that's like a negative experience, it's like getting into a warm bathtub, and you feel like, oh, now there's relief. Now you went away from that negative experience that was your legacy PACS to something that's truly visionary and designed for your individual practice. That's the opportunity."

2 – Innovation Buzz

Going to SIIM and meeting with lots of customers always allows me to reflect and consider the bigger picture. Not all customers are able to attend RSNA or attend annual specialty conferences -- in fact the opposite is often the case where customers have limited travel budget and individuals may only be able to attend conferences every couple of years, or need to rotate attendance with their colleagues. They're taking care of patients and heads down supporting operations, and may not have visibility to vendor development and innovation.

That's one of the reasons why SIIM is so special, it's a smaller meeting with less chaos and distractions that are often the case with other industry meetings. Attendees meet during presentations, at the coffee station and in the hallways to discuss the state of their enterprise imaging initiatives, what's going well, what's struggling, and what impressed them most. Lessons learned are in the air. This year, so many Visage innovations impressed customers as they met with us to catch up, receive a demo, and/or chat with mutual Visage customers in the aisles.

Here are some of the innovations that kept customers buzzing at SIIM25:

  • QC Tickets. QC Tickets enable Radiologists to file tickets for Technologists about exam quality and other problems, as well as native backend workflow for Technologist Supervisors to manage these ticket queues with their teams. Several Visage customers said it would provide them with a simple tool to facilitate a quality improvement process which they don't have now, and one that could provide recognition of a job well done for technical staff. Heard in the booth specifically about QC Tickets: "Wow, this is so easy!"

  • Visage Chat. Visage demonstrated Visage Chat as a work-in-progress offering imaging professionals a highly efficient and integrated means of communicating across the care team. An optional software module, Visage Chat users will have access to individual and group chats that also benefit from the novel native capabilities of Visage 7 for context sharing and launching of Visage 7 Live Connect for collaboration. • Visage Ix. Visage Ix (e.g., Imaging History) was demonstrated as a work-in-progress to enable rapid insights about a patient's imaging (report) history. Powered by GenAI (ChatGPT) and a large language model, the simple workflow allows the user to ask questions using natural language prompts or via the buttons that are already in the dialog box. This is especially useful for patients with a lengthy imaging patient jacket and/or complex imaging history. Navigating patient reports in a historical approach would otherwise be incredibly time consuming. The user can input freeform questions, or select from convenient buttons for "Summary" (e.g., brief medical history for the patient), "Fractures" (e.g., any fractures for the patient) and "Interventions" (e.g., any surgical interventions). The results are hyperlinked to the original report(s) for reference (with a quick hover to the Impression) and can be easily formed into a table, which is convenient for lists of masses and their growth over time. The results and table can be easily sent to the reporting application for downstream access. Customers absolutely loved Visage Ix, and were eager to get it into production. One customer was so excited, they asked our applications specialist to pause during their demonstration so that they could take a quick photo, seen below:

  • Visage 7 | AI. Visage demonstrated several work-in-progress algorithms for Visage 7 | AI - Mammography for breast cancer screening, as well as three Opportunistic AI algorithms including: Visage 7 | AI – OS BMD for Opportunistic Screening Bone Mineral Density assessment; Visage 7 | AI – OS Aorta for Opportunistic Screening Aortic Calcification; and Visage 7 | AI – OS BodyComp for Opportunistic Screening Body Composition. All of these algorithms are being developed with Visage 7 customer partners around the globe.
  • Visage Ease VP. Visage continues to make heads turn with our novel imaging application for the Apple Vision Pro, Visage Ease VP [Note: Visage Ease VP is not a medical device and must not be used for diagnosis.] At SIIM25, we brought three (3) Apple Vision Pro(s) and they were continuously being used for demonstrations from show opening to show close! It's astounding to see how well Visage Ease VP is received, and we keep making enhancements to refine and optimize the user experience. While at SIIM25, Nicholas Galante, MD came by the Visage booth and showed us a super cool video he recorded last year, literally in his living room. He was sitting on his couch, watching the Tour de France, and was navigating a bunch of studies on Visage Ease VP in passthrough mode. He told us that earlier this year, he showed the video during his presentation at the Texas Radiological Society 2025 meeting, and told all of those assembled they were witnessing "the Future of Radiology". Simply awesome.

3 – Visage Believes in Good Science | Presentations and Posters

At SIIM25, there were more than 50+ oral presentations and poster presentations that featured Visage customers, Visage staff authors/co-authors and/or discussed groundbreaking Visage 7 technology! Visage was involved in six (6) SIIM25 scientific abstract presentations and posters with Yale University, Mayo Clinic, New York University, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. These projects showcased the extensive work we have undertaken, including streamlined and organized data curation using semantic annotations, LLMs, AI-enabled workflow acceleration, PACS-integrated AI vision pipelines, and more. The scope of work covered topics in oncology, vascular surgery, cardiovascular health, radiology reports, as well as additional topics.

Furthermore, demonstrating our commitment to good science and cutting-edge industry collaboration, Visage will be participating in the upcoming IHE European Connectathon, June 23-27, 2025 in Vienna. Also, we have already started work on the new Radiology Reimagined AI, Innovation, and Interoperability in Practice demonstration at the upcoming RSNA25. This represents our sixth consecutive year participating the Radiology Reimagined demonstration at RSNA! Radiology Reimagined just released videos highlighting their demonstrations from RSNA 2024, and you can view Visage's demonstration via this link: ED Trauma to ARIA Workup [Video].

4 – Radiologist Efficiency | Long H. Tu, MD, PhD

Whenever we talk and meet with Visage customers, great things happen. Case in point, earlier this year Visage exhibited at the Society of Breast Imaging 2025 meeting in Colorado Springs, CO and Matt Covington, MD, a dual-subspecialty diagnostic radiologist and founder of the acclaimed The Radiology Review Podcast was chatting with us about how much he enjoys reading on Visage 7. While chatting, he pulled out a paperback book from his backpack titled, How to Be a More Efficient [Faster, Better, Stronger] Radiologist by Long H. Tu, MD, PhD. He highly recommended the book (which was well worn from his own use), and encouraged us to connect with him. Turns out Dr. Tu is a Neuroradiologist and Emergency Radiologist from Yale New Haven Health, and he is a self-described superuser of Visage 7.

In addition to his book, Dr. Tu presented an hour-long, free lecture focused on radiology efficiency (on Medality/MRI Online) titled, How to be a Faster Radiologist While Maintaining Accuracy (12-5-24):

Dr. Tu has also curated an extensive list of self-created videos on his YouTube Channel, How to be a More Efficient Radiologist:

How to Be a More Efficient Radiologist - YouTube Channel [Video]

Dr. Tu developed his book with the assistance of a dozen or so of his Yale peers. The book and related videos share stills and video screen captures of Visage 7 in action — in particular, the Visage 7 capabilities which Dr. Tu finds most beneficial to radiologist efficiency. In addition to workstation efficiency, Dr. Tu shares details on the compelling impact of efficiency (e.g., on happiness (for the individual and group/institution), quality improvement, potential increased income, burnout reduction, etc.), reporting efficiency strategies, and much more.

We brought Dr. Tu's book to SIIM25 and introduced his research on radiologist efficiency to Visage customers. Dr. Tu’s insights are thoughtful and enthusiastic. His passion is laudable and is intended to “create” happier radiologists, which is exactly what Visage is all about. Even small improvements (1%) in efficiency have massive benefits for individual radiologists and the institutions they work for. I'd encourage you to review Dr. Tu's presentation, his YouTube Channel and his book to learn more. I promise you won't regret it!

5 – Industry Recognition | Josh Becker-Dober, SIIM Early Career Achievement Award

There's so many reasons to love SIIM and one of my favorite parts of the agenda is the SIIM Membership Meeting + Awards Ceremony. In addition to the formal business meeting, every year SIIM convenes the entire imaging informatics community to celebrate our own, bringing together all of the personas of SIIM (Scientists, Developers, Vendors, Imaging IT, Clinicians). We come together to cheer on those leaders that are transforming imaging informatics in so many ways. There are numerous SIIM honorary awards that are given out annually, and we'd like to applaud all of this year's winners!

But this year's honorary awards were even more special as SIIM recognized one of Visage's own, Josh Becker-Dober, as he was awarded The 2025 Early Career Achievement Award for Industry. This award and honorarium was "presented in recognition of significant and innovative technical contributions in imaging informatics to someone whose highest earned degree has been awarded within 10 years of the date of nomination."

As Visage's Senior Systems Engineer and Senior Cloud Lead, Josh has been integral to the success of Visage and our customers. Here's an extract from his nomination letter: "We frequently receive awesome customer feedback about Josh’s contributions, that are bar none, the best I’ve ever seen in the industry. He is technically brilliant, and has absolute laser customer focus. Josh’s leadership and technical contributions undoubtedly have outsized contributions to the stellar reputation that Visage enjoys in today’s medical imaging environment."

It was truly a pleasure to engage with Visage customers who came by the booth over and over to specifically meet Josh in person. Josh is so genuine and humble, and his remarkable contributions have clearly made a tremendous impact on so many of his colleagues at Visage, our Visage global customers and the patients they care for. Thank you, Josh, and thank you SIIM for recognizing Josh's achievements!

How can we help?

That's a wrap and thank you for a record-breaking SIIM25! Next year we'll be in a similarly sized booth at SIIM26 in Pittsburgh. If you could not make it this year, we hope to see in 2026.

From all of us at Visage, we hope you enjoyed Visage’s Top Five from SIIM25 and for those in the Northern Hemisphere, we wish you and yours an enjoyable summer!
