SIIM 2024 | Visage's Top Five

SIIM 2024 | Visage's Top Five

SIIM24 was phenomenal this year! Visage experienced a double-digit increase in badge scans over our experience at SIIM23. Visage debuted our largest SIIM booth in our history (10' x 30') supporting three diagnostic workstations and three Apple Vision Pros. We also participated in four different talks and one poster presentation at the industry's premier imaging informatics meeting. For more information about Visage's SIIM announcements, click to view Visage's SIIM24 press release, Visage Leads with CloudPACS at SIIM24.

We’re so glad many of you were able to join us at SIIM24! We hope our summary from the meeting matches your experience, and if you were unable to come to National Harbor, we hope you find our top five useful. Now, on with Visage’s Top Five!

1 – Cloudy with 100% chance of imaging brilliance

SIIM once again held an informative AskIndustry Panel that focused on the cloud, The Cloud and Waves of Change: The New Normal Elevates Imaging IT, including Visage's Steve Deaton, Director of Customer Experience, and five other industry panelists. The difference this year was that the conversation had clearly changed in a positive way. The audience filled their seats early, and there was so much interest that lines of participants hugged the perimeter. In fact, more than 260 attendees participated in person, virtually or had included the panel discussion in their SIIM24 app. Fun fact, this audience represented more than 20% of all of the attendees at SIIM24!

At the conclusion of SIIM24, it's customary to exchange feedback with SIIM, the moderator and panelists. Given the impact of this year's panel, I wanted to share a subset of the email I contributed to the conversation:

"I told everyone I met with at the show that I thought this year’s “cloud” panel represented a notable milestone in the adoption of cloud. We’re pivoting, which is fantastic.

While all of the represented vendors have different solutions, niches, approaches and experience with the cloud, it was the collective voice of industry that was most important this year. We’ve reached the inflection point where we all were speaking with one voice. Essentially sharing a positive message to attendees that the cloud is here, the experience is powerful and transformative, and that it’s not a “future” conversation. It’s now, and an investment that will bring much needed relief to Imaging."

If you were unable to participate in the session and want to "listen in" to the great discussion, here's a free link to the replay video.

I'll leave you with one great comment that Visage's Steve Deaton added to the conversation: "I think the important thing is the shift goes from being on the defense to now you're on the offense." That's just such an insightful quote!

Last year, Signify Research performed first-of-its-kind research (Journey to the Cloud: Provider Considerations, Key Learnings and What's Next) into the experience of Visage customers in the cloud. They told us that imaging stakeholders were desperate for and found relief by moving their PACS to the cloud with Visage. Institutions with legacy PACS have been struggling for so long they have constantly been on their heels, just dealing with one challenge after the other. But once they moved to Visage in the cloud, they finally could take on the problems they never had time to address in the past. We often get asked about the ROI of cloud and going on offense is a significant part of that conversation. In fact, one luminary customer shared with us, "Now we can tackle the higher order problems that previously we couldn't even think about."

To further assist and educate customers in their transition to the cloud, Visage premiered a brand new video just prior to SIIM24, Visage 7 CloudPACS | Five Things You Need To Know.

2 – Visage Takes Center Stage

As mentioned in the opening section, Visage took quite an active role in this year's meeting. MingDe Lin, PhD, Visage 's Clinical Research Director North America likes to say, "Visage does good science," and we truly contribute to the conversation in so many ways. In addition to the AskIndustry Cloud Panel discussion, Visage participated in research and presentations on the following topics at SIIM24:

We also worked with NYU Langone Health on the below SIIM24 poster presentation, Low Hanging Fruit but High Value Treats: PACS Tools That Streamline Radiologist Workflow. Including a fantastic title, the poster details their use of Visage 7's differentiated capabilities in the following areas:

  • Organ Volume Computation and Data Transfer Tool
  • Lesion Data Transfer Tool
  • Quick Paste Tool
  • Automatic Population of Priors

We'd like to thank all of our informatics and customer collaborators on the above for their expertise and partnership helping to advance some of the most important topics in Imaging!

3 – Spatial computing spins heads with Visage Ease VP for Apple Vision Pro

Visage has always supported the entire Apple ecosystem, including macOS, iOS, iPadOS and most recently, visionOS. At SIIM24, our central Visage 7 diagnostic workstation was "All Apple" powered by a MacBook Pro connected to two gorgeous 32" Apple Pro Display XDRs. Don't worry, if you missed it at SIIM24, you'll be able to experience this beautiful "All Apple" workstation running Visage 7 at the Visage booth at the upcoming RSNA24.

Additionally, at SIIM24 we had three Apple Vision Pro(s) on hand to demonstrate Visage Ease VP, Visage's purpose-built native app for visionOS. We often had multiple demonstrations of Visage Ease VP going on simultaneously, giving dozens and dozens of demonstrations over the course of the meeting. What was the response? Universally positive and often with expletives, but in a good (great?) way (Note: This is 100% true).

Here's a taste:

  • "This is the bomb" - Radiologist and Vice Chair, Radiology Information Technology
  • "Using Visage Ease VP on Apple Vision Pro was effortless" - Radiologist and MD/PhD Researcher

4 – "In Their Words" comes to life on the show floor

We always love to hear and share the wonderful feedback that our customers provide when they meet with us at industry meetings. Before SIIM24 we shared seven (7) customer videos highlighting some of the recent feedback we have received from customers across different specialties, clinical settings, imaging stakeholders and hemispheres of the globe. Visage is making a demonstrated difference, in incredibly meaningful ways.

While at SIIM24, one of our recent cloud customers stopped by and described some testing they had recently completed after going live. They explained that their radiologists and clinicians raved about Visage 7 being "so fast" for the subsecond display of images,  but they also hypothesized that Visage 7 was also so much faster (as compared to their prior PACS) when it came to the initial availability of new images.

So they tested their hypothesis, sending the same sets of studies, from a broad set of imaging modalities to two different paths:

  • The first path - Visage 7 CloudPACS (e.g., Visage 7 implemented in the cloud) [Note: When Visage 7 is implemented in the cloud, there are no PACS servers on premise.]
  • The second path - Their prior PACS (e.g., implemented on premise)

What did they find? They determined that images sent to Visage 7 CloudPACS were available 80% faster as compared to those same studies when sent to their prior PACS (which was on premise, with their modalities).

Visage 7 is indeed the Platform For The Future - Powered By Speed.

5 – Happy Anniversary, Enterprise Imaging!

There was a lot of fanfare at SIIM24 about the celebration of 10 years of Enterprise Imaging!

Join Visage in continuing the celebration by participating in the HIMSS/SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community presentation, with a who's who of acclaimed and celebrated speakers, From Data to Diagnosis: Advancing Enterprise Imaging Through Key Trends and Innovation, on August 1 at 1 PM ET.

Register here.

We've come so far as a community and there's much work to do! Join us.

How can we help?

That's a wrap and thank you for a record-breaking SIIM24! Next year SIIM25 is in Portland, Oregon. If you could not make it this year, we hope to see in 2025.

From all of us at Visage, we hope you enjoyed Visage’s Top Five from SIIM24.
