RSNA 2024 | Visage's Top Five

RSNA 2024 | Visage's Top Five

RSNA 2024 ("RSNA24") was another record-setting year for Visage! This year, we debuted the largest RSNA booth in our history (50' x 100') supporting our newly expanded Grand Theater, fourteen (14) demonstration areas, and our new spatial computing zone with Apple Vision Pro. And that's not all. We also participated in Radiology Reimagined, hosted a customer Visage 7 Workflow presentation, helped promote one of the exciting cloud PACS panels at the meeting, and celebrated one of our own receiving a very special award. For more information about Visage's RSNA24 announcements, click to view Visage's RSNA24 press release, Visage Transforms Imaging to the Cloud at RSNA 2024.

We’re so glad many of you were able to join us at RSNA24! We hope our summary from the meeting matches your experience with Visage, and if you were unable to come to Chicago, we hope you find our top five useful. It's filled with lots of photos and videos to make you feel like you were right there on the show floor. Now, on with Visage’s Top Five!

1 – Visage is Where It's At!

Visage saw a 38% increase in attendance over our experience at RSNA 2023. This is more than double the 18% increase in attendance communicated by RSNA midweek during the meeting. It's always phenomenal to connect with customers at RSNA, where we have an opportunity to meet with representatives from approximately 75% of our North American customers, as well as customers from across the globe. Amid the backdrop of countless presentations and papers detailing radiologist burnout, and targeted messages on social media and advertising intended to "bring back joy" to imaging, I'm immensely proud to tell you that Visage customers are on the complete opposite end of this trend.

Over and over we met with radiologists who told us how Visage has been downright life-changing. We often get asked to articulate the value of Visage, and while we can tick off all of the hard and soft savings in explicit detail, one of our sales executives summed it up succinctly: "Visage creates happy radiologists."

Visage Imaging RSNA24 Highlights [Video]

Here's some insider insights about the Visage customer experience that I think you'll enjoy learning about:

  • Monday afternoon, the hall was starting to close, and all of the workstations at Visage were still full with active demonstrations. A radiologist approached our booth with clear purpose and excitement when he shared, "I have to meet the inventor of Visage." He went on to explain that he had completed his fellowship training at an institution with a legacy PACS and about a year ago went to an academic institution in California that uses Visage 7. He then described, "I want to shake their hand and tell them they changed my life. Visage is where it's at!" He continued and said, "When my kids are watching a video that is boring, I sometimes go upstairs and read a couple of cases -- because it's easy and fun." This is the authentic, infectious enthusiasm that embodies the feelings radiologists have when they read on Visage 7. Visage creates happy radiologists.
  • Another happy radiologist came and spoke with us about their use of Visage 7. After they finished explaining their positive experiences, they said they had something they wanted to show us. They took out their phone and showed us a moderated, radiologist-only group on Facebook. You need to get approved to get into the exclusive group. Scrolling through the thread, they shared post after post by residents seeking fellowships at institutions that use Visage 7. We first wrote about the Visage 7 benefits of recruitment, retention and expectations of aspiring residents to choose institutions for fellowship that use Visage 7 in our RSNA 2022 | Visage's Top Five (See "Outstanding Visage customer feedback") - learn more here. We see this trend continuing and expanding.
  • Building on the point of recruitment and retention, one Radiology Chair considering Visage told us that given the challenges of today's scarcity of radiologists, their institution wants every possible lever to compete in today's market for radiologist talent. They explained they know one of their competitors has Visage, and that's a specific strategy that institution uses to retain their radiologists and compete for talent when needs arise. To reach parity with that competitor, it's an operational imperative for their institution to also invest in Visage. Otherwise, if they choose a lessor performing system, they will continue to lose talented radiologists to their competitor. Take home message - don't lose radiologists in a time when radiologists are in short supply, and that situation is not anticipated to resolve anytime soon.
  • What's the backstory on the Visage SuperCar? It's simple, Visage is synonymous with speed. When customers go-live with Visage and realize the ultrafast speed of Visage is the real deal, a lightbulb moment occurs. They'll often say, "Visage is like a Ferrari!" And with speed in the hands of a radiologist, amazing things happen. The sports car metaphor is one we hear over and over, so we decided to build our own Visage SuperCar. And now you can too, complete with a custom sticker set to match your specialty: neuro, breast imaging or MSK. Now back from RSNA24, Radiologists have shared the added joy we brought to their families, by allowing them to build the SuperCar with their kids, add to the the fun toys under their Visage 7 workstation, and for some, the future joy of their kids unboxing the Visage SuperCar under their Christmas tree. Visage creates happy radiologists.

2 – Enhanced Communications: Visage Chat

Flexible, secure, reliable and fast communications are integral to any thriving Imaging team. At RSNA24, Visage demonstrated Visage Chat as a work-in-progress offering imaging professionals a highly efficient and integrated means of communicating across the care team. An optional software module, Visage Chat users will have access to individual and group chats that also benefit from the novel native capabilities of Visage 7 for context sharing and launching of Visage 7 Live Connect. Visage demonstrated Visage Chat across our booth and the customer feedback was outstanding. Customers especially appreciated the speed of communications and the ability to share study context with other Visage Chat users directly from within Visage 7. They also liked the ability to launch Visage 7 Live Connect directly with other users they are chatting with, to immediately begin a collaboration session focused on patient imaging.

Radiologists, technologists and administrators all saw the value of Visage Chat, and were quick to share ideas for future enhancement requests based on departmental clinical workflows, QC tickets across the care team, notification recommendations and other integrations with scheduling systems, and tools across the Visage 7 Enterprise Imaging Platform. Visage Chat has planned availability in Q2 2025.

3 – AI Inside: Opportunistic Screening and GenAI

At RSNA24, Visage customers learned why Visage is Optimal for AI.

Visage remains on the forefront of AI interoperability through our actions with the IHE, with cutting-edge customer AI transparency initiatives, and five (5) consecutive years of participation as the PACS in the RSNA Radiology Reimagined demonstration (formerly Imaging AI in Practice demonstration). We've integrated to dozens of third-party algorithms, and demonstrated those efforts publicly using the commercially available version of Visage 7. Here's a brief video of Visage's efforts on the show floor of RSNA 2024 in the Radiology Reimagined booth:

Visage @ Radiology Reimagined

In addition to the demonstration of commercially available Visage 7 | AI – Breast Density, Visage introduced and demonstrated the following new AI solutions at RSNA24 as work-in-progress:

  • Visage 7 | AI – Breast Cancer screening

The following new suite of Opportunistic Screening tools were also demonstrated as work-in-progress:

  • Visage 7 | AI – OS BMD for Opportunistic Screening Bone Mineral Density assessment
  • Visage 7 | AI – OS Aorta for Opportunistic Screening Aortic Calcification
  • Visage 7 | AI – OS BodyComp for Opportunistic Screening Body Composition

These new solutions are all native to the Visage 7 platform.

In addition, Visage also demonstrated a new work-in-progress capability that enables radiologists to gain rapid interpretation insights never before possible. During interpretation, radiologists can launch a dialog powered by LLMs and GenAI to gain key insights into a patient’s prior reports. Whether the patient has just a few, dozens or hundreds of prior reports, this new capability allows the reporting radiologist to quickly review a GenAI prepared summary (with specific notations) of a patient’s prior reports, select one-click frequent queries, as well as enter manual prompts. Visage 7 will answer those inquiries ultrafast, and provide hyperlinks to the pertinent reports associated with the summary findings/GenAI results.

4 – Immersive Excitement: Visage Ease VP

RSNA24 marked the first time Visage had the opportunity to demonstrate Visage Ease VP on the Apple Vision Pro to customers on the show floor of RSNA. Originally introduced in March 2024 and timed with the commercial launch of Apple Vision Pro, RSNA24 was the third major industry meeting in 2024 where Visage demonstrated Visage Ease VP. With every show the interest and buzz has only increased. In anticipation of significant customer interest, Visage dedicated a large, purpose-built area of our RSNA booth just for demonstration of Visage Ease VP on four (4) Apple Vision Pros.

Nearly from the start to the end of RSNA24 we had simultaneous demonstrations of all of our Apple Vision Pros going on, totaling hundreds of demonstrations over the course of the meeting. The response was universally positive and we often heard customers say their friends and colleagues told them they could simply not leave RSNA without checking out Visage Ease VP on Apple Vision Pro in the Visage booth!

As a work-in-progress, Visage demonstrated Visage Ease VP with Immersive 3D Key Views and Pass Through Mode for the Apple Vision Pro. Using a new finger-tap gesture, users could easily navigate through multiple pre-saved Immersive 3D perspectives with different orientations, contrast, and cut planes, enabling quicker and more detailed visual analysis. Visage Ease VP is not intended for diagnosis.

Repeatedly customers told Visage that they appreciated Visage being on the cutting edge and that they had not seen anything as cool or inspiring at RSNA24. If you did not have an opportunity to try out Visage Ease VP at RSNA24, don't worry, you'll have an opportunity to try it out at any of our upcoming tradeshow exhibits planned for 2025.

5 – The Proven Impact of Relief

The transformation to the cloud has been very successful for Visage customers as to date 66% of our customers in the U.S. have implemented Visage 7 in the cloud (e.g., Visage 7 | CloudPACS). We have not implemented an on premise implementation of Visage 7 in more than 4 years, and just before RSNA24 we announced two milestone events -- our first Visage 7 customer has contracted to move their on premise implementation of Visage 7 to the cloud, and we also announced our largest CloudPACS customer in the history of Visage.

Prior to RSNA24, Visage announced the availability of the new informative whitepaper: “Progress Towards Cloud: Relief, Considerations and New Opportunities,” authored by Signify Research’s Amy Thompson, Research Manager. This whitepaper was supplemented by The Imaging Wire video interview: “The Road to Cloud-Based PACS”. Notably, this video has the most views in the history of The Imaging Wire! In 2 years of interviews with Visage CloudPACS customers, Amy Thompson researched the widespread relief that Visage customers have experienced following the move to Visage 7 CloudPACS, and the elimination of legacy on-prem PACS. Relief leads to "happy radiologists" (and IT professionals) as I noted earlier in the blog post.

At RSNA24, Visage shared multiple experiences with customers which manifest the proven impact of relief. For example, on Tuesday, December 3 at the Visage Booth, Myles Taffel, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology, Director of Workflow Analytics, Associate Section Head of Abdominal Imaging, shared an insightful presentation, The Smart Distributor: Evening the Odds, about his institution’s experiences transforming workflow from the medical center to the community, and beyond.

A photo and video of Dr. Taffel's presentation about their use of Visage 7 | Workflow and Visage 7 | Workflow - Load Balancer are shared below:

On Wednesday, December 4, Susan Sotardi, MD, MEng, Director of Radiology Informatics and Artificial Intelligence, Richard Markowitz Endowed Chair of Artificial Intelligence in Pediatric Radiology; Assistant Professor of Radiology, participated in a panel discussion, Power of Cloud-Based Enterprise Imaging: A Transformative Journey for Radiology Workflows: AWS, discussing her experience replacing legacy PACS, and moving to Visage 7 | CloudPACS on AWS.

Once RSNA shares the recording of this panel discussion, we'll share it for your use.

And finally during RSNA24, Visage's MingDe Lin, PhD, Clinical Research Director North America, was elected to the prestigious Council of Distinguished Researchers of The Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research, after being nominated earlier this year by the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine. Congrats Ming, and thank you to SIIM and The Academy!

How can we help?

That's a wrap and thank you for a record-breaking RSNA24! Next year we'll be at the same exact location, same size booth at RSNA 2025. If you could not make it this year, we hope to see in 2025.

From all of us at Visage, we hope you enjoyed Visage’s Top Five from RSNA24 and we wish you and yours Happy Holidays!
